What are the good reasons for not using a 13.8 volt power supply regulated as an automotive battery charger?
A example of a bad reason is "not a battery charger - is a source of energy!"
The power supply is made to turn current and can to maintain 13.8 V, or whatever the set voltage. A battery charger limits the current to 10 amps or maybe so, and even then, when it detects that the battery is nearing full charge, you can scale back the current. If the uninterruptible power supply charges of 10A or more after the battery is full, the energy has nowhere to go, but the heat and boil the electrolyte. This means that no one, current limited supply of fantasy (Such as a bank's offer HP). If you were going to go with one of these, however, only purchasing a battery charger would be much cheaper. I guess if it were an emergency, you might have a chance and use of a power source to charge a car battery, but we should check the battery status load every few minutes. Some battery chargers can only offer 2A, or in the case of trickle chargers and 50 mA to maintain the battery.
